United Way Guaranteed Income Program 23-24

Thank you for your interest in United Way California Capital Region Guaranteed Income Program.

BEFORE YOU APPLY, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY.

    OVERVIEW

If your application is selected and we confirm your eligibility, you will receive $500 each month for 12 months with the first payment starting January 1, 2023. This funding is unconditional, guaranteed, and without spending restrictions. 130 participants will be selected for this opportunity. Please note that we anticipate having far more applicants than available openings. Eligible participants will be selected by lottery.

    SURVEY

We are working with California State University Sacramento to administer surveys in which we will evaluate the benefits the program provides for participants. The same survey will be administered three times.
The first survey is part of this application process. Once you have completed this application, a link will be given where you can complete the survey. You will also receive the same link in an email confirming that you have completed the first part of your application. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE SURVEY IN ORDER FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO BE COMPLETE. It should take you 20-30 minutes. Again, please make sure that you complete this application form AND the survey which you will receive a link to after you have completed this form.
Additional surveys will be sent to those who are ultimately selected as well as a control group of those not selected in order to compare data. For those selected into the program and invited to be a part of the control group, $25 gift cards will be given upon the completion of each additional survey. Those additional two surveys are administered after the completion of payments (December 2024) and six months later (May/June 2025).

To determine if you live within these limits, click here and enter your full address (Street name and number, Sacramento, CA, zip code) then click on the magnifying glass icon 🔍︎ in the search bar. If the search indicates that you live in either District 1 or 2, you have met the first eligibility requirement.

If you are selected, please be prepared to share documentation that confirms your address.
    Income:
Eligible households with one or more people will earn a total annual income below the following limits for household size and composition:

    • 1 Adult: $28,205

    • 1 adult, 2 children: $65,880
    • 1 adult, 3 children: $79,500
    • 2 adults: $43,201

    • For households with more than 8 people, add $14,160 for each additional person.
Please note that household income should include both income from employment (if any household members are currently employed) and public aid cash benefits (for example, Housing Voucher, CalFresh/Food Stamps, CalWorks, SSI, etc.).
If you are selected, please be prepared to share documentation for your household income (for example, tax returns, pay stubs, public benefits award letters, etc.).

AN IMPORTANT NOTE FOR APPLICANTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY RECEIVING PUBLIC BENEFITS

These funds, if you are selected, may change your total household income threshold and your eligibility for other benefits and therefore lead to a reduction or elimination in certain benefits, with the exception of Housing Vouchers, CalFresh, and CalWorks cash aid. The State has approved an exemption for our Guaranteed Income Program, so that selected recipients will not see any reduction in these cash benefits.
United Way is working with the relevant public agencies to reduce if not eliminate any potential impact on other public cash aid programs. However, it is every applicants’ responsibility to take this into consideration and make the best decision for their family if selected for the program. It is highly recommended that each individual household additionally check and confirm with their Case Worker at the agency administering their current benefits to address their individual situation.

Your eligibility will NOT be affected by simply applying. If you apply and are selected, a UW staff member will do a one-on-one meeting with you to discuss the possible impact that participating in the Guaranteed Income
Program may have on the current public benefits you receive. If it looks like you will be negatively impacted, UW will encourage you to withdraw your application to keep your current benefits.

LASTLY, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE AND SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION. YOU WILL RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION EMAIL INDICATING YOU HAVE SUCCESFULLY SUBMITTED YOUR APPLICATION. THEN CLICK ON THE LINK TO THE CSUS SURVEY AND COMPLETE THE SURVEY IN ORDER TO BE ENTERED INTO THE LOTTERY FOR THIS COHORT.
